Our School

Otama School caters for children from NE to Year 8 - a full primary school. We are situated in beautiful heartland Southland between Riversdale and Waikaka - and about 20 km from Gore.

It is a vibrant, growing, rural school with a pleasant, purposeful family atmosphere.

The Otama community is very supportive of their school . They have a justifiable pride in it. We have a very enthusiastic, capable Board of Trustees that is committed to ensuring that the school continues to flourish.

The school is very well resourced, with all the latest technology - including 8 computers, a digital video camera, a digital camera, a scanner and other support equipment. we have a very attractive and comprehensive library. These things - combined with our moderate roll numbers, ensures that each child receives the best resourced education.

Education Review Office Comments

"Records and children’s work indicates that the children experience many interesting and challenging programmes.  Many units of work are well planned and relevant to the children’s interests.  The teachers give good oral and written feedback to students after significant units of work.  Students are developing their research skills using the class computers and resources, and enjoy experiments in science.  Some students have made considerable progress in writing and reading and are finding school work more enjoyable.  The board has supported student learning by approving the purchase of resources, such as the computers."
